The position is responsible for Linux systems administration for one of the top Universities on The West Coast! The primary function is to perform day-to-day operations and support for our Linux environment that consists of RHEL, CentOS, and Ubuntu distributions. Duties include OS installation, LAMP and LEMP stack deployments, account provisioning, systems backups, shell scripting, systems performance monitoring, and related application and database support. An important focus is to improve system stability and security posture, to monitor system health, and to troubleshoot issues that arise.
In This Role You an Expect :
20% new system builds, 40% level 2 and 3 support and 40% DevOps scripting automating with Bash, Perl, or Python
Duties and Responsibilities
- System administration and server maintenance for RHEL, Ubuntu, and CentOS systems.
- Manage and support data center technology including Cisco UCS, Puppet, Gitlab, Splunk
- Maintain NGINX and Apache web servers, including creating new virtual hosts and software upgrades.
- Support and maintain PostgreSQL and MySQL database servers.
- Create BASH, Perl Python, or other scripts to optimize administrative tasks.
- Support and troubleshoot NFS and ZFS shared file systems.
- Collaborate with IT staff on ongoing projects and proof of concept initiatives for emerging technologies
- Assist with administration of a HPC computational cluster.
- Perform daily systems monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
Requirements Include :
- 5-8+yrs of total experiene as a Linux Admin
- Linux file system expertise
- Linux Command line expertise
- UCS is a big plus
Day to day Activities Include :
- Scripting/automation using bash, perl or Python
- Request for folders and storage
- Verify That Backups are completed
- NFS troubleshoot file sharing
- Maintain apache
